Safer Communities across the City!

1. Continued support for evidence based programs that have been effective in reducing violent crime – PIVOT, community based policing, RESET, city wide, but especially in hot spots, programs that address Prevention, Intervention and Response to Violent Crime.
2. Different neighborhoods have different types of safety issues – regular open meetings to hear concerns and work together for solutions (i.e. lighting, blight, theft, loitering, speeding etc.)
3. Work with non-profits to enhance services for those who are unhoused. Explore creative possibilities such as micro-housing communities with wraparound services (meals, healthcare, clothing closets, vocational training etc.)
4. Prioritize our Fire and Police Departments ensuring that they are fairly paid, have excellent equipment and are an honored part of our community
5. Collaborate with Carilion to continue support to lower substance abuse and substance abuse fatalities
6. Honor our military veterans by ensuring that needed services are readily available
7. Enhance equitable practices for those with physical or cognitive needs
